Butler County Association for the Blind

Community Education at Carlow University

NewchoicesThe Community Education at Carlow University Program is designed to assist single parents, displaced homemakers and individuals in transition to achieve economic self-sufficiency. Since 1994 Community Education at Carlow University has been helping people in transition at Downtown, North Hills, and South Hills sites.

Crisis Center North

Ongoing evaluation of programs allow Center staff to develop strategies to interrupt the cycle of violence in our community. Crisis Center North provides thousands of hours of free educational/empowerment counseling to adult and child victims of domestic violence each year.

Genesis of Pittsburgh

GenesisAt Genesis, we believe that every child is a gift and deserves a safe and loving home. We help young women in Allegheny and Washington Counties face unplanned pregnancies and create new beginnings for themselves and their children. Genesis is committed to providing a complete spectrum of programs and services which offer positive, life enhancing solutions to these women and their babies. Established in 1973, Genesis of Pittsburgh, Inc. is a nonprofit, nonpolitical, nonsectarian, tax-exempt organization.

Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council

GPLCIs there a need for GED classes, adult basic education, and family literacy programs in the Pittsburgh area? YES! Every day five to ten new students call our offices to ask about enrolling in our programs. They urgently want to improve their lives through the power of education. Please help us to meet this heavy demand for services. Your involvement will open up a life.

HEARTH

HearthEvery family and individual should be able to live in safe, affordable housing. We accomplish our mission through two programs that we operate, Benedictine Place and PRIDE.
Benedictine Place we provide transitional housing to homeless women with children while they work to become economically self-sufficient. While the “Moms” go to school and obtain marketable skills, the staff at HEARTH provide support through Case Management, donations, volunteer services and connections with community resources.
PRIDE is a permanent supportive housing program for women with a mental health or physical disability comprised of scattered site apartments throughout the community. Through this program, women leaving Benedictine Place who are in need of longer term support can continue to receive it while taking additional steps to become independent.

North Hills Community Outreach

Free and confidential services our center can offer you: Obstetrical ultrasound, Pregnancy testing, Rewards program, Material assistance, Abortion recovery support and help, Support groups, Childbirth classes.

Working Order

WorkingOrder Working Order® helps people with disabilities or other obstacles to employment create meaningful work for themselves through entrepreneurship. Our goals are to provide support for entrepreneurs in a cooperative setting, to create a truly diverse work environment welcoming people with or without disabilities and to make micro-enterprise accessible to the widest range of individuals through business coaching, shared resources, and community connections.

Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh

photo591Founded in 1974, Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh (WC&S) was one of the first six shelters in the United States for battered women. Since that time, WC&S has been at the forefront of the Battered Women’s Movement, creating and implementing innovative and effective programming aimed at preventing domestic violence and providing services to domestic violence victims.
